Photos I did not use in my preliminary task

I decided not to use this photo because the hand of the student on the right is out of focus and the pictures in the background are reflecting the flash from the camera back.

I chose not to use this picture because it is out of focus. Also the background of the photo is very distracting, taking the attention away from the student.

I did not use this photo because not all of the books are leaning the same way, there is a lot of gaps on the shelves and the sofas are not central to the photo, making the whole image look messy.

New Model Ideas

Yesturday I chose to use not only Kyah Coles as my front cover model. I have now decided to use Drew Sheekey on the front cover with Kyah. I made this decision because I have done further research into Indie artists and it is very rare to just have a solo female singer in this genre. Therefore to make my magzine more orthentic I have decided to add Drew to the front cover and double page spread and portray them as an upcoming indie duo. I have chosen to use Drew because I feel that he has an edgy look that will complement Kyah and I feel that when put in the correct clothing, him and Kyah will look like a real india double act.I took some test shots of Drew on his own and with Kyah, to make sure there looks complemented eachother the way I wanted them too.

Concert Photography proof

On the 18th of November 2015 I went to see Scouting For Girls in Southend. I took a few photos at the concert that I wish to use for my magazine. This post is to prove that all the photos were taken by me and that I was actually there.

Photoshop Testing, School prospectus

I aslo made the front cover of a school prospectus using photoshop. I tested different backgrounds and cropping techniques. This will help me when it comes to cropping ohotos of my models for the front cover of my music magazine.

Photoshop Practice, Nature magazine Cover

Today I played around with photoshop so that when I come to making my magazine cover, I have a good idea of how to use it properly. I tested out some of my font ideas for my magazine (having the first letter of the little larger than the rest and with some embelishment around it). I also tested out some colour schemes and image and text placement.

Magazine analyses: case study MOJO

In class we did an analysis on an indie magazine called MOJO. We analysed the front cover, contents page and double page spread of the magazine to try and get some ideas for our magazine covers.

Models

Today I chose to use Kyah Coles as my main model. This is because I feel she has a very natural look and is very versatile. I feel like her natural look will fit well with my indie theme, she will look cool and care free on the front cover which is the look I want to achieve .

Magazine analysis

From doing this analysis I have learnt that pop magazines use bright colours to attract their young target audience. I have also realised that I now know that I don't want to do a pop magazine as I think that is could very easily turn into a teens magazine about gossip and not music.

Research 1, genre and colour scheme ideas

Genre and colour scheme

I have chosen to do an indie magazine.

I like the idea of have the cover of my magazine a close up of my featured artists face and then a full body shot on the double page spread. They use simple colours like red black and white. On the front cover there aren't any pictures other than the featured artist. I like the way that Q magazine has made the first letter of the article take up most of the page and the writing goes over it.
